Another Eagle Found Dead Near Lakeshore
A second bald eagle has been found dead in less that a week in the Grand Haven/Muskegon area.
According to WZZM, the Department of Natural Resources biologist Nik Kalejs, said another eagle was found Tuesday on the north side of Mona Lake in Muskegon.
Kalejs said, "this one appears to have been electrocuted. You can tell that from the appearance of the bird. There is typically a burn mark."
The bird will be taken to Lansing for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
One week before this eagle was found dead, two brothers, John and Scott Pardee, found another dead eagle near Grand Isle Marina on the northeast side of Grand Haven.
An autopsy on the first eagle found is already in progress but so far it looks like no foul play led to the birds death.
Eagles have been nesting around Mona Lake for years so the likelihood of finding a dead one is possible.
Kalejs said, "eagles will mate and stay together. If one of the pair is lost, eagles will re-mate."
