A couple Kalamazoo area students are looking at misdemeanor charges for allegedly posting online threats to schools.

According to WOOD, some online threats were made that caused the closing of several schools in Kalamazoo County schools made from a teenage girl and boy.

A 16-year-old girl along with a 14-year-old boy both face a count of threatening to commit violence against a school and are facing a charge of using a computer to commit a crime.

Tuesday evening police were informed of another online threat that was made against Loy Norrix. Officers found that a 16-year-old had been identified of making the threat. A home on Vanzee Avenue near Reed Avenue had been searched where officers found electronic devices that are believed to have been used in committing the online threats. No weapons were located in the search nor the threat seemed credible.

A 14-year-old was also picked up by police for posting an online threat. Other copycat threats were also made.

Police are asking parents to speak with their children about just how serious it is to make a threat to a school or a student and that even joking about potential threats can become a serious issue.
