Beyoncé is reportedly being eyed to portray Black Panther Party activist Angela Davis in a Huey Newton biopic, which is still in development.

This revelation came way of retired NBA star Matt Barnes who is producing the proposed film. On Friday (April 20), he appeared on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club where host Charlamagne tha God asked Barnes about getting the rights to do the film.

“Yeah, we do. We got about $20 million. I think we got Bryan Barber to direct it now. A whole slew of people,” he said. Barnes then added that his team would “be in touch with Beyoncé about playing Angela Davis.”

According to Okayplayer, Barnes previously announced that the Huey Newton biopic will be called Power to the People. Apparently, The New Edition Story star Keith Powers will play Newton, while actors Wood Harris and Hill Harper have signed on as cast members. Dr. Dre reportedly has also signed on to do the score.

All of this sounds good, however, as Okayplayer pointed out, Barnes is known to tell a fib or two. And honestly, this is the first time we have ever heard of this film project. We are just saying.

In the meantime, Beyoncé’s reps have not commented on the validity of Barnes' comments or about this Huey Newton biopic.

Movie roles aside, Beyoncé is set to perform at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on Saturday night (April 21). Unfortunately, Queen Bey’s performance will not be live streamed. But if it’s anything like last weekend’s memorable performance, it will no doubt be epic.
