Chance The Rapper Gives Thanks to CPS Students Who Wrote Him a Letter
Chance The Rapper made headlines, as well as history when he donated a whopping $1 million to Chicago Public Schools a little over a week ago. He also made the days--if not academic careers--of three CPS students named Alex Rojas, Alondra Cerros, and Annelisse Betancourt, who wrote the "No Problem" performer a touching letter thanking him for his massive donation.
“There are many big celebrities from Chicago, but you are one of the few that really give back,” their letter reads. “It is evident that you sincerely care for the youth here. This is why you are an inspiration to us. We appreciate you for not only representing us through your music, but also through your actions.”
The letter goes on to recognize Chano for his constant presence in the Chi-Town, whether it's in the school system or on the concert stage.
“All of the things that you do for our city never go unnoticed," their letter reads. "All of the free concerts you host and all the time you spend here in the city really show you care. We notice it. We look up to you because the fame usually takes humility away from artists, but it hasn’t changed you.”
Not too long after the three students' letter was published, Chance offered up a "thank you" through his Twitter account, while hinting that more positive changes will arrive in the very near future.
"I appreciate you guys, and you'll be happy to know the work has only just started. Huge things to come over the next 2weeks," the Grammy Award-winner tweeted yesterday.
Chano began the highly publicized portion of his crusade to improve Chicago's ailing school system when he met up with Illinois Governor Rauner a few weeks ago. Chano wasn't too happy with Rauner's "vague answers" about how to improve the school system's condition, and shortly after their meeting, he made a very sizable donation to the system himself--even though he didn't even sell his last project.
The dictionary's definition of "altruist" should probably have Chance's picture next to it.
