Tragedy has struck the music festival circuit once again, this time after a 16-year-old from Chicago was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at the 2018 Lollapalooza festival on Sunday (Aug. 5).

Evan Kitzmiller was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 7:50 p.m. on Sunday and was pronounced dead nearly an hour later, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. While a cause of death has yet to be reported, police are conducting an investigation into the teen's death.

"The safety and security of festival attendees is our top priority," Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications spokeswoman Melissa Stratton told Billboard. "We are saddened to learn that an individual transported from the event in critical condition last night due to a medical emergency has since passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time."

A spokesperson for Lollapalooza also commented on the matter but said no further information was available. "We are saddened to learn of the death of an individual who attended Lollapalooza on Sunday. The individual's family and loved ones are in our thoughts during this difficult time," a statement read.

According to the teen's family, they were told he suffered a seizure, but weren't told what caused it. Andrew Kitzmiller, the 16-year-old's father, says doctors tried to revive his son but were unsuccessful. "They tried to revive him, his heart stopped and they tried to revive him. The doctors spent a long time trying to get him back," he told ABC 7 Chicago.

This marks the third death of the year at a music festival, after a 35-year-old man died at Bonnaroo in June and a young woman died at Firefly Festival just ten days later.

This year's Lollapalooza festival featured a number of hip-hop acts who graced the stage, including Lil Pump, Brockhampton, Gucci Mane, Travis Scott, Logic, Post Malone, The Weeknd and more.
