DeJ Loaf Doesn’t Hold Back on New Song “Birdcall 1.5″
Fans are eagerly awaiting DeJ Loaf's official debut album. She revealed last year that the title to her forthcoming LP is Liberated and since then, she's collaborated on a few new songs with the likes of singer/songwriter Tish Hyman on “What It Feels Like” and Tracy T on “Shinin’ Like My Rollie.” She also released a mixtape with Jacquees titled Fuck a Friend Zone back in February.
Today (May 4), the Detroit native drops “Birdcall 1.5,” produced by Illinois’ own Hona Costello. The song is the sequel to DeJ's 2014 song “Birdcall,” off her Sell Sole project. The record finds DeJ boasting about being one of the best out.
"You see these shoes, yeah they Chanel/My tee Saint Laurent/You know you getting money when your tees cost more than $500/Look at me they can't stunt (fuck with us)/It's me Lil Loaf/Project kid, still to shoot the dice for some hundreds," she raps.
XXL spoke to the former XXL Freshman for the winter 2016 issue about her absence in hip-hop in previous months. "My process has always been just to take my time and perfect it," she said. "I never cared about just putting out music like everybody else and I still don’t. I believe if it’s meant to happen it’s gonna happen. I don’t feel like my time is running out. I know how this industry goes, I’m learning it. I get frustrated sometimes because I get anxious like, I want to put out music! At the same time I’m patient. If my album isn’t meant to happen it’s going to be what it’s going to be. I’m a believer in what I do. That’s how I look at it. It’s gonna work, it’s fine."
