Dollar Trees And Family Dollars In Michigan May Close

Michiganders may be upset with the lack of choices regarding Dollar Tree or Family Dollar stores soon.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the company announced that it would be closing nearly 1,000 stores.

Dollar Trees And Family Dollars In Michigan May Close

Why is this happening? Well, CNN says that it is because of mismanagement over the years and the stores' poor conditions.

"Years of mismanagement and poor conditions in stores have hurt Family Dollar’s brand. Family Dollar, which is owned by Dollar Tree, was recently fined more than $40 million for a rat infestation at a warehouse that forced hundreds of stores to temporarily close."

The closures also have to do with inflation and governmental benefits being reduced.

The CEO, Rick Dreiling, shared more information saying that,

“Persistent inflation and reduced government benefits continue to pressure the lower-income consumers that comprise a sizable portion of Family Dollar’s” customer base."

What will happen to Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores?

Well, this year, Family Dollar will be closing 600 locations. In the next several years, it will be closing 370 stores as the stores' leases expire.

As for Dollar Tree, it will be closing 30 stores as the leases expire.
