On Thursday, July 25th a "city killer" asteroid nearly missed Earth. Named Asteroid 2019 OK, this asteroid was not detected until just a few hours before it flew past Earth. If the asteroid were to have struck Earth, it is said that the impact would have been similar to a very large nuclear weapon.

Estimated to be 187 to 427 feet wide and hurling through space at nearly 54,000 mph, this space rock came uncomfortably close. Asteroid 2019 OK came within 45,000 miles of Earth, which is less than one-fifth of the distance to the moon.
