Gov. Whitmer Relaxes Some Restrictions, Allows Small Gatherings
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Thursday morning that she is relaxing some restrictions in the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Small gatherings of ten people or less are now allowed in the state, though the governor did stress that people should still be vigilant about social distancing and safety.
Retailers across the state will be allowed to resume business beginning Tuesday, May 26, but by appointment only, and only allowing ten people or less in their stores. Auto dealers may also open their showrooms, by appointment only.
Doctors and dentists will soon be able see patients in their offices. Non-essential medical and dental procedures will be able to resume beginning May 29.
Pet owners will be happy to learn that veterinary and pet grooming services are now able to resume, as well.
Executive Order 2020-96 comes just three days after Gov. Whitmer announced that all restaurants and retailers in regions eight and six (the Upper Peninsula and Traverse City are) would be allowed to reopen ahead of the long Memorial Day weekend.
Gov. Whitmer continued to stress that while these businesses reopen, it is still imperative that employees and customers practice social distancing and wear masks if medically able.
For now, restaurants and bars located in all regions other than six and eight will remain closed to dine-in service.
