Grand Haven High Schools Going Virtual For Two Weeks, Sports Paused
Following spring break, Grand Haven High School students will not be returning to in-person learning and youth sports are temporarily paused.
According to a press release from Grand Haven Public Schools, the move is in response to the Ottawa County Department of Public Health and State Officials recommendation of a 14-day pause for high school in-person learning and all youth sports.
On Friday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer asked Michigan residents to take a two week break from in person high school, youth sports, and indoor dining at restaurants to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Beginning April 13, all Grand Haven High School and Central High Schools students will be moved to online instruction through April 23. High schoolers will not have class, Monday April 12.
Andrew Ingall, GHAPS Superintendent, said,
“The health and safety of our students and staff remains a high priority and we make decisions based on what is in their best interest. While we don’t have reports of an imminent outbreak in our high school buildings, we are responding to the recommendation from the county and state health departments to temporarily move to online instruction... Though we have decided to temporarily move to remote learning for GHHS and Central HS students, we want to stress the importance of all students, staff and families throughout the district continuing to do their part to help eliminate the spread of COVID-19 by wearing masks, social distancing, sanitizing and washing hands."
In-person instruction for high school students will resume on Monday, April 26. This change does not affect Kindergarten through 8th grade students, who will resume in-person learning on Monday, April 12, or Buccaneer Virtual K-12 students, who will continue instruction as usual.
