A Grand Rapids Cafe Shut Down for Illegal Gambling
A cafe in Grand Rapids has been shut down due to illegal gambling practices.
The Nudgemaster Café, on Plainfield Ave, was one of 14 businesses in the state who was being investigated by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. They all
...claimed to operate redemption games, which are legal in Michigan.
Redemption games reward players on skill. However, the cafe was actually using casino-style slot machines which are based on chance.
All the businesses, including The Nudgemaster, chose to close as opposed to facing charges by the state.
The investigations took place in 2019 as a joint effort between the MGCB and the Attorney General's Office. Executive Director of the MGCB says that
Illegal gambling can lead to money laundering and other crimes that impact the safety and security of Michigan communities.
