Man Throws Brick Through Grand Rapids’ The Candied Yam Window
It would be best if you always supported local businesses.
However, when tragedy strikes, supporting local businesses is imperative.
The Candied Yam
Are you craving macaroni and cheese, yams, collard greens, or any comfort soul food?
If that is the case, you may be a new (or old) customer of The Candied Yam.
With all of the success of The Candied Yam, the restaurant recently opened a second location with an event space.
Vandalism At The Candied Yam
On Saturday, a man was charged after he threw a brick and smashed windows at The Candied Yam's new second location on Division.
According to court documents, Darda Brooks was charged with malicious destruction of a building - $1,000 or more but less than $20,000.
Due to this senseless act of vandalism, two doors and six windows were broken.
Although this horrendous situation happened, the owner of The Candied Yam, Jessica Ann Tyson, shared that they are "not going anywhere."
In a Facebook post, the owner shared a note that explained that this was more than "a violation of not just our space, but our hard work and dreams."
"Right now, I'm taking a moment to process, to feel everything from the anger to the pain. But make no mistake - I'm not backing down. We've built The Candied Yam to be more than just a restaurant. It's a community, and no act of destruction can tear that apart."
This is the time to share your support locally.
The Candied Yam needs our financial support to fix what was destroyed. If you want to help, you can send donations to their Cash App: $CandiedYamGR.
Despite all of this, The Candied Yam is still open. If you are reading this, you should visit The Candied Yam today and show your support.
