UPDATE: The incident on Grand Rapids' northwest side has been cleared. Previous reports of a gunman in the home were found to be incorrect.

On a day where most people are trying to get to the polls to vote and or stay dry from the rain, an armed gunman has barricaded himself in a Grand Rapids home on the cit's northwest side.

According to WOOD, a gunman was completely surrounded by police Tuesday morning in this on going situation. Grand Rapids Police Department said the armed man is in a home in the 900 block of Courtney Street NW right near the intersection of Alpine Avenue and Leonard Street.

Anyone driving in the area or residents who live in the area are being asked to stay away until the situation is diffused. Courtney Street has been shut down while police have the house surrounded.

No word on why the man has barricaded himself in the house holding a weapon. Police are still unsure if there are any others in the house with the man.

Check back soon for updates on the gunman.
