GVSU Coach Suspended After Praising Hitler’s Leadership Skills

Last week, Morris Berger was named the new offensive coordinator for Grand Valley State University's football team.

Today he was suspended for his comments about Hitler.

The comment's came from an interview with GVSU's student-run newspaper, The Lanthorn. The interview was conducted by Sports Editor Kellen Voss.

Berger was asked which three historical figures he'd have dinner with if he could choose anyone, living or dead. Berger said:

This is probably not going to get a good review, but I’m going to say Adolf Hitler. It was obviously very sad and he had bad motives, but the way he was able to lead was second-to-none. How he rallied a group and a following, I want to know how he did that. Bad intentions of course, but you can’t deny he wasn’t a great leader.

JFK and Christopher Columbus were his other two choices.

Woodtv.com shared a statement from GVSU, "The comments made by Offensive Coordinator Morris Berger, as reported in The Lanthorn student newspaper, do not reflect the values of Grand Valley State University. Berger has been suspended and the university is conducting a thorough investigation.”

Berger was the tight ends coach at Texas State. Prior to that he spent two years on staff at Oklahoma State.
