‘Hidden Figures,’ Fences,’ Beyonce Honored at 2017 NAACP Image Awards [PHOTO]
Black excellence was celebrated at the 2017 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday night (Feb. 11). The historical film Hidden Figures was among the big winners at the star-studded event, which honors achievements by African-Americans in the film, television, literary and music fields.
Hidden Figures won two awards, Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for Taraji P. Henson (who also won for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for Empire). Another phenomenal film, Fences, nabbed two honors as well - Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for Denzel Washington and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Viola Davis.
In the Television field, Black-ish came away with three big wins: Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for Anthony Anderson and Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for Tracee Ellis Ross.
In the music category, Beyonce grabbed five trophies, including Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Album for Lemonade. Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper and Maxwell won awards for Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Male Artist, respectively.
In addition, Hollywood heavyweight Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was honored with the Entertainer of the Year award.
