When the legendary Punxsutawney groundhog from Pennsylvania comes up to see his shadow...people watch.

According to WOOD, the most famous groundhog in America declared on Super Sunday that spring will be early in 2020.

If was the 134th prediction of the furry critter Phil at sunrise on Groundhog Day in Pennsylvania.

There was a crowd on board chanting Phil in order to wake up the groundhog who was then hoisted into the air to see if the shadow would occur and it did not.

The whole celebration began as a German legend that states if the furry animal has a shadow then winter will move on but if not, spring will happen early.

Unfortunately Phil and his shadow are really just a show because a group of people that are on Gobbler's Knob, a tiny location just outside of Punxsutawney, really decide of winter will continue or spring pops in early. Sorry Phil for spilling the beans.

This is the first time since 2014 that Phil has not predicted six more weeks of winter. We all know in Michigan that could be 8 to 12 weeks more of winter. Beginning in 1887 is when records began being taken on Phil's shadow and the little hog had predicted winter will go on longer more than a 100 times.

We will see if the groundhog's prediction hold's true for us Michiganders. One good things is, an early spring brings an early steelhead run!
