A few weeks ago, I checked out the IllumiZoo at John Ball Zoo and was amazed at how cool it was. Now it is even more amazing!

The John Ball Zoo website describes IllumiZoo this way: "At John Ball Zoo a tale of illuminating connections between wildlife and wild places is ready to be told. The illuminating tale of how we are all connected to each other, to the land, the water, the air, the trees, and all animals big and small with the power to make a positive change in our world. You are invited to take a journey through IllumiZoo – A Glenlore Tale at John Ball Zoo."

I had never visited the zoo after dark before. Don't expect to see any animals on your journey through IllumiZoo, however the lights and sounds are worth the cost of admission.

And now, to crank it up even a few more notches, John Ball Zoo is offering up themed nights at IllumiZoo!

On Thursday, November 5th from 9 pm to midnight it will be Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. You can experience a musical transformation of IllumiZoo – A Glenlore Tale told through the music of Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon! The classic album will bring a heightened experience to the tale of illuminating connections between wildlife and wild places. The tale of how we are all connected to each other, to the land, the water, the air, the trees, and all animals big and small with the power to make a positive change in our world.

The following week, on Thursday, November 12th from 9 pm to midnight it will be Tropical Calypso Music Night. Caribbean island-inspired music of Calypso with its highly rhythmic and harmonic vocals will get your body groovin’ for this special evening of IllumiZoo – A Glenlore Tale! Enjoy a wide array of music from Rodrigo y Gabriella to Bob Marley and the Wailers. You will make your way through the illuminated journey to the blissful rhythm of the steel pan drums swirling among marimbas and horns, while shakers complement the upbeat percussion and brassy tambourine.

IllumiZoo runs through Sunday, November 15th. For more information and to reserve your tickets, check out the John Ball Zoo website.

John Ball Zoo is located at 1300 Fulton St W. on the westside of Grand Rapids.
