It’s Official! Ice Cube Is Bringing ‘Last Friday’ to the Big Screen
After years of development, it looks like the fourth and final installment of Friday is officially a go. On Wednesday (May 17), Ice Cube was on CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden where he officially confirmed that a new Friday movie is in the works.
“We’re working on one right now,” said Cube. “We’re gonna call it Last Friday.”
When James Corden asked if there could be a part for him in the new movie, Cube hesitated, but replied, “We’ll keep [you] in mind. You look like a Saturday movie.” Bloop!
This great news follows John Witherspoon’s announcement that he’s going to appear in Last Friday back in April. The veteran comedian, who plays Cube dad in the original flick, said that he and Cube will have a meeting to discuss his role in the flick. Witherspoon also alluded that Warner Bros. may have greenlighted the picture.
Now the real important question: Will Chris Tucker reprise his role as “Smokey” in the movie? In past interviews, the 46-year-old actor said he wasn’t sure if he wanted to play the character again. Let’s hope Cube can persuade him to join the cast. It won’t be a Friday movie without him in it.
It’s been 15 years since the last installment, Friday After Next, was released in theaters. It would be fantastic if the original director, F. Gary Gray, agreed to shoot the final Friday to close out the franchise on a high note.
We will have to wait and see.
