Captain Sundae Vandalized, Iconic ‘Captain’ Statue Destroyed
Like a beacon in the night, the "Captain" stood watch over the guests of Captain Sundae on Douglas Ave. for years. It was in the background when President George W. Bush ordered a Tommy Turtle in 2005. It survived a kidnapping in 2007 after someone stole the statue and later returned it, which has led it to sporting a huge chain for years.

The statue has been synonymous with Captain Sundae for decades, but this weekend, the Captain experienced something it will not be coming back from. The ice cream stand shared security camera footage of someone walking up to the statue in the middle of the night and pushing over the very heavy statue, destroying it.

Now Captain Sundae is looking to track down the vandals who destroyed their beloved statue.
Captain Statue Destruction Caught On Camera
As previously stated, this isn't the first time people have aggressed this beloved statue. For whatever reason, when people see something quirky like this statue, the first thing people want to do is destroy it. That's what happened at 1 AM on Saturday when someone, possibly a teenager, walked up to the Captain and, after a few attempts, succeeded in knocking over the heavy statue.
At first glance, it doesn't look like anything serious happened to the Captain beyond it toppling over. However, when the staff went to pick it up, they discovered the statue was damaged beyond repair, and the Captain had lost its head.

It's incredibly sad to see such an iconic part of the ice cream stand destroyed so recklessly. Now Captain Sundae is working with police to track down the hooligan responsible, as well as the co-conspirators caught on other nearby cameras. If anyone knows who did this to the Captain, please contact Captain Sundae.
On a personal note, this statue has been a part of our family history for years. Earlier, I mentioned that George W. Bush visited Captain Sundae in 2005; a fun fact about me is that a photo of my siblings and me with President Bush in front of the Captain statue is forever immortalized on the wall of Captain Sundae.

It's sad how people sometimes don't consider what they're doing when they mess around with unique things like the wooden Captain statue. For those kids, it was probably just a dumb dare in the middle of the night, but for everyone else, this statue had meaning.
