On August 11th, 50 years ago, DJ Kool Herc threw a back-to-school party in the rec room of their apartment building in the Bronx. The rest was history!
The birth of Hip-Hop did more than bring a new genre to light. It brought a new way of life and energy.

There are a bunch of events that are happening this weekend to celebrate the love of Hip-Hop.
50th Anniversary of Hip Hop Fest
On August 11th from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM, the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop Fest is happening at the Pyramid Scheme!
Plenty of Grand Rapids very own artists will be in attendance, including Sonny Ski, Huff The Goat, Gwopped up Speedy, Adrian Wright, and more!
Sixman is putting on a legendary moment with 14 other Michigan Hip-Hop artists. Plus, it is for a great cause!
Besides having a Hip-Hop experience, there is also a food drive with Feed America.
One Peace Hip Hop Festival
This Saturday, August 12, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the One Peace Hip Hop Festival is happening at MLK Park.
"One Peace Festival is a one-day, all-ages, shared experience designed to advance Hip Hop’s core principles of peace, unity, love, and having fun."
According to the website, live music is curated by Hope Dealers GR. DJs, emcees, b-boys/g-girls, and more will be in attendance.
A 3 on 3 youth basketball and soccer competition will be happening with All Good Sports and Soccer Rebellion.
