The City of Grand Rapids Wants Your Help Naming a New Park
How exciting! Not only is the City of Grand Rapids getting a beautiful new park, but you can help name it!
The brand new park is coming to southwest Grand Rapids at 680 E. Chavez Ave. SW. Construction is set to begin in the fall.
It's temporarily being called "Roosevelt Plaza" and the space was designed with tons of community input.
According to the City of Grand Rapids, proposed featured include:
- Play areas
- Café style seating
- Flexible gathering areas
- Hammock grove
- Rentable shelter space
- Interpretive kiosk featuring the cupola from the former St. Joseph the Worker Parish
Got any ideas for a name? The City is taking suggestions through July 14, 2024.

City reps will be at the Roosevelt Park Neighborhood Farmer's Market on June 14 and July 12, 3:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. taking in-person suggestions from residents.
You can also submit your park name ideas through the project website here.
And before you go suggesting "Parky McParkface", the names must adhere to guidelines outlined in the City's park naming policy. To be qualified for consideration, the names must have "historical, cultural, and social significance for generations to come."
The new park was funded by the Parks, Pools and Playground Millage.
