What's HGTV's Pick for the Best Place in Michigan to Celebrate Halloween?

For Michigan, HGTV chose none other than Mackinac Island as the best place to celebrate Halloween! Known for its charm and as a summer favorite, the island transforms into something much spookier during the haunting season.

"At Fort Mackinac, visitors can walk through a Revolutionary War-era hospital said to hold phantom limbs or visit the kid’s quarters, where toys are said to move on their own", HGTV commented. "Haunts of Mackinac is the go-to ghost tour in these parts, with an expert staff that craft a captivating saga of the island’s history from indigenous history to the more recent past."

Not only does the fort offer some ghostly encounters, but many may not be aware so does the Mission Point Resort.

"At Mission Point Resort, guests can stay in an opulent, expansive hotel that offers lakeside views served with the spirit of Harvey, a former employee said to still roam the grounds."

So, if you're ready to trade summer vibes for ghostly chills, Mackinac Island should be at the top of your Halloween travel list. With its rich history, spooky legends, and autumn beauty, it's the perfect blend of fright and fun.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
