Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn.’ Is No. 1 Album on Billboard Charts for Second Week in a Row
Kendrick Lamar's 2017 just keeps getting better. Billboard reports the TDE lyricist's latest album, titled, DAMN., has secured the top spot on the albums chart for the second consecutive week.
DAMN. sold over 600,000 album equivalent units in its first week of release, and last week, it moved a whopping 238,000 more. On the strength of its second week sales alone, K. Dot's DAMN. stands as the fourth best selling week of 2017 behind DAMN.'s first week sales, Drake's More Life (505,000) and Ed Sheeran's ÷ (Divide) (451,000). In other words, K. Dot's beasting.
Kendrick's latest project has been generating plenty of hype since its release about two weeks ago, and if you listened to the project, you know why. Featuring production from folks like The Alchemist and 9th Wonder and plenty of K. Dot's vivid storytelling and relentlessly earnest bars, we wouldn't be surprised to see it earn as many Grammy nominations as To Pimp a Butterfly. As it is, K. Dot's already getting more than enough recognition from the mainstream.
Last week we learned Kung Fu Kenny's entire DAMN. album landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Literally, every single song. At the time, K. Dot's hit single “Humble” checked in at No.1 , while "DNA” landed at No. 4 on the chart. The Rihanna-assisted “Loyalty” has landed in the top 15 (14). “Element” (16), “Love” (18), “Yah” (32), “XXX” (33), “Feel” (35), “Pride” (37), “Lust” (42), “Fear” (50), “Blood” (54), “God” (58) and “Duckworth” (63) all also landed in the top 70. Not bad.
