The man who has been killed has now been identified by law enforcement. MLive says that 37-year-old Thomas Verile Jr. of Scotts had been wanted for parole violations. Police say that when they went to arrest him Thursday, Verile claimed to have a weapon; however, no weapon was found after he was shot and killed by officers.

Authorities attempted to arrest him two days before, but Verile allegedly fled in a vehicle and nearly struck officers before his vehicle crashed and he ran away on foot.

The Michigan State Police say that the officers involved were from the Battle Creek Police Department, the U.S. Marshals, the Michigan Department of Corrections, and the MSP Fifth District Special Investigation Section.

ORIGINAL STORY-

A man was reportedly shot and killed in an officer involved shooting Thursday morning just northeast of Kalamazoo. WOOD-TV reports that several law enforcement agencies responded to a home on East "G" Ave. near Mt. Olivet in Cooper Township.

At around 10:00 am, authorities at the home were allegedly following up on an investigation of a parole violation. The Michigan State Police says officers had been trying to to track the 37-year-old down for several days.

Investigations led law enforcement to the Cooper Township home that reportedly belonged to a relative of the man being sought. After being let inside, the man was located in the basement. At some point, an officer felt threatened and fired a shot at the man. He was taken to the hospital, and later died.

The exact events that led to the shooting have not been made available as investigations continue. It has not been reported which department the officer works for. The name of the deceased man has not been released. No officers were injured.
Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo Township Police Department, Battle Creek Police Department, Michigan Department of Corrections, the U.S. Marshals Service and Michigan State Police are all involved in investigations at this time.
