In a recent report about the best states in the country from US News & World Report, Michigan pretty low on the list.

The survey attempted to rank which states have the best outcomes for citizens that live in them.  US News & World Report used more than 70 different metrics to determine their rankings.  Some of those metrics include: Health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime & corrections, and natural environment.

Michigan ranked 38th overall on the list, but we did rank in the top 10 for one metric.  Michigan ranked 5th overall in opportunity. and that probably has something to do with all of the economic growth in West Michigan.  And maybe it has a bit to do with the very slow process of rehabilitating neighborhoods in Detroit.

Michigan has continually hovered around the same ranking in years past.  We ranked 33rd in 2017, 37th in 2018, and 33rd again in 2019.  US News & World Report did not release a ranking for 2020.
