Make & Stick To A Plan

If things go awry, it is always comforting to have a plan in place.

Having a storm prep plan is important so everyone knows ahead of time where supplies are and where to meet up if people get separated.

The CDC and American Red Cross recommend that you have emergency contact cards with important numbers and maps with important plans where things are stored.

Besides your plan, you should grab enough supplies for roughly 3 to 7 days for each person in your household, including any pets.

As for those supplies, they will include food, water, any medication, extra batteries, charging devices, warm clothing, and blankets.

Prep Your Home

Before any winter weather, it is extremely important to make sure your home is ready for anything.

Make sure you update your insulation, caulking, and weather stripping so you can keep the cold air where you want it to be - outside of your home.

Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working with their battery backups.

Prep Yourself & Family

After prepping your home, it is just as important to prepare yourself and your family.

If you have to go out in a storm or leave your home after losing power, you need to be ready with everything you may need.

Having an appropriate change of clothes is recommended, especially during winter storms.

Cover your nose, ears, cheeks, chin, fingers, and toes in warm, dry clothing to prevent any chances of getting frostbite.
