As a woman with extreme anxiety, I am a big advocate for mental health education and resources.

Also, I am a more prominent advocate for mental health awareness for younger children, especially in ways that help them express themselves.

So, with that being said, I love what this Michigan organization is doing for children in our community.

The Diatribe Inc will host a poetry camp that strives to teach children a healthy way to express themselves from July 11th to July 15th.

This is the second year that the organization has hosted this youth camp after the big success of the previous year.

According to the organization's official website, the 'Mindfulness and Metaphor Beginners Poetry Camp' is for grades 5-8 that

"teaches students how to engage their poetic creativity through mindfulness, affirmation, and self-advocacy."

One of the camp's leaders, Gemini DaPoet, told ABC 13 that the leaders

"wanted to provide a platform for the youth of Muskegon County to have a way to express themselves. A safe place within the diatribe as well as in their notebook to openly express themselves unapologetically in a healthy way."

The final performance will be open to the community on July 23rd from 7 PM to 9 PM at Pathfinders Muskegon.

If you think your child would love this summer camp, send an email to Gemini.DaPoet@yahoo.com.

If you have children between the grades of 9-12, they can join in the fun this summer as well.

From August 1st to August 4th, the company website states that the 'Write it OUT Advanced Poetry Camp' helps

"take participants' writing skills to the next level by diving into unique experiences- engaging with nature and public art, viewing films through poetry, and practicing their craft under the leadership of Kyd Kane."

After the poetry camp, their work will be showcased at the Poetry Pop Up Show on August 11th at Garfield Park from 6-8 pm.
