There's a new option for dinner and drinks in northeast Grand Rapids!

Café Mamo is now open at the corner of Plainfield Ave. and Sweet St. NE, in the Creston Neighborhood.

The owners, Michael and Summer, helped to raise funds for the new spot on Kickstarter. Here's how they describe Café Mamo:

Cafe Mamo is a place to gather with friends and family for good food and wine! We want to be a neighborhood place where guests feel welcome, safe and comfortable. Cafe Mamo will serve American food that is inspired by Michael's grandmother's garden.

Summer, a Central Michigan University grad, moved to Montana after graduating, where she met Michael, who'd been cooking his whole life. The two discovered their shared passion for food and wine and eventually set the goals of Michael to cook in a Michelin Starred restaurant and Summer to become a Certified Sommelier.

After achieving those goals, spending years working in restaurants gaining experience, and getting married, the two say they are "happily working our butts off for a dream that's been in our minds since childhood" --  owning and running a restaurant.

They did much of the construction work on the restaurant themselves and Café Mamo, named for Michael's grandmother, is now open!

Starters include a Simple Green Salad, Wedge Salad, and Ranch Dip with fresh vegetables and chips. Entrees include a Bison Burger, Eagle Creek Trout, Roasted Half Chicken, and Farmer's Cut Steak. Check out the menu here! Cafe Mamo serves a selection of cocktails, wine, and beer, to compliment your meal.

Hours are 4pm-10pm Monday through Saturday. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday 10am-3pm. You can call 616-350-3430 to book a table; walk-ins are welcome too!
