If you are or know a high school junior or senior In Kent County that has thought about being a police officer or just want to know more about how police officers serve the community then heads up.

The Grand Rapids Police Department is currently accepting applications for Kent County high school juniors and seniors who want to be a part of this week-long academy. GRPD Youth Police Academy runs the week of June 8th - 12th.

There are a few requirements to join the summer program including:

  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Be in good standing at your school
  • Be of good moral character
  • Have an acceptable legal history
  • Be in good physical condition

You don't have to want to be an officer, you just have to want to learn more about police work and its impact within the community.  You also have to attend a meeting on May 20th with your parent or legal guardian.

Looking at the video they posted last year on Facebook, they train like real officers, and it looks cool. The deadline to sign up is March 31st.  You can submit your application or get more info HERE
