Paris Jackson Says She Won’t Follow in Father Michael’s Pop Star Footsteps
The family business is just not for Paris Jackson, the daughter of the iconic Michael Jackson says in CR Fashion Book's 10th issue.
Michael, who died in 2009, earned 18 Grammy Awards before his death, but Paris said her relationship with music — which she treasures — isn't one she's willing to take as public. Rather, she wants to focus her efforts on modeling and acting, and keep songwriting as a hobby.
"I write music for myself," she said. "I use it as a way to get stuff out. It’s not something I see myself following careerwise. There are so many amazing artists in my family. If I were to do it as a career, it would change how I feel about music, and I don’t want that to happen."
Still, when creativity does strike, and she's moved to write songs, she said inspiration comes out of nowhere.
"I never plan [writing songs],” she said. “Sometimes I’m in the car and I think of some lyrics and write it down, and then maybe put a melody to it later."
Paris described her sound as "kind of like folk, like The Lumineers mixed with Johnny Cash,” and said her lyrics are especially intense. “Most of my songs are just a bunch of metaphors. ‘Your ice cold words like bony fingers around my neck like a skeleton.'"
And, while she keeps her music close to her chest, Paris says it is, indeed, inspired by her father.
"I would say 99 percent of my inspiration comes from him, because he has always been my world,” she said. “He is my roots.”
