Pork Has Been Pulled From Stores Due To Risk Of Listeria Contamination
A Michigan-based company is pulling nearly a quarter of a million pounds of pork from store shelves out of fear of listeria contamination.
WOOD reports that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced that Alexander & Hornung, a unit of Perdue Premium Meat Co., Inc., voluntarily recalled 234,391 pounds of cooked ham and pepperoni products after notifying the FSIS that product sampling showed positive for Listeria.
If you have purchased fully cooked pork products from Alexander & Hornung it is best to return them to your point of purchase for a refund or simply throw them out. Do not risk eating any of these products.
Here is the establishment number "EST.10125" to look for on your recent pork purchases. You can find the number inside the USDA mark of inspection on the pork packaging.
The St. Clair Shores company announced no one has been reported sick from the product. The recall is out of an abundance of caution after testing shown positive results for Listeria.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a listeriosis infection is similar to COVID-19 in that there is a higher risk for people 65 years or older, those with weekend immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
If you have eaten any of the pork products listed above and feel fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions you are to seek medical treatment immediately.
It is highly important to get rid of the recalled pork since listeriosis can have fatal consequences.
