About a month ago, retailers announced that they were temporarily suspending bottle returns in Michigan due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.  There is still now word as to when the service will be available again, but we are guessing it won't be soon.

So, instead of just throwing those bottles and cans out (which is technically illegal), be sure that you are properly rinsing and storing them for when you are allowed to return them again.  If they aren't being properly rinsed, the leftover liquids can grow bacteria, attract wildlife, and even make employees who work with returnables sick from harmful bacteria or fungus that grows inside the bottles and cans.

The easiest and quickest way to clean them out is to rinse them out with hot water immediately after finishing the can or bottle and then setting them aside to dry before bagging them up or storing them in their original packaging.
