Survey Finds Michiganders Think Unvaccinated Should Get $136 Incentive
Should the unvaccinated get cash incentives to get the shot? A new survey asked people in each state how much they they think the unvaccinated should receive.
MyBioSource, the biotechnical products distribution company that conducted the survey, reports that about 100 million Americans are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, but have still not received shots. Would a cash incentive encourage them to do so?
The survey found:
- 45% of Americans think that there should be a cash incentive for unvaccinated individuals who will get a shot.
- 57% of vaccinated individuals believe that having a cash incentive for vaccination is not fair.
- Around 61% also believe that if a cash incentive will be given to individuals who will receive their first dose, then there should also be an incentive for those who have already received theirs.
MyBioSource found that Michiganders, on average, believe the unvaccinated should be paid $136 each to get vaccinated; the national average is $182.
Here are the cash incentive amounts from other midwestern states, according to the survey:
- Illinois: $249
- Indiana $206
- Ohio $230
- Wisconsin $184
Alaska and Minnesota had the highest amounts, with the unvaccinated receiving $259 each. Utah has the lowest, with the unvaccinated getting $74 each.
According to MyBioSource, the results of other recent studies show around a third of the unvaccinated population says that they would be more likely to get their shots if there was a cash incentive involved.
Over the summer, Minnesota launched a $100 vaccination incentive. According to KSTP, almost 80,000 Minnessotans signed up for the program.
Michigan did conduct the MI Shot to Win Sweepstakes, giving away $5 million in cash and a combined total of nearly $500,000 in college scholarships in an effort to encourage more residents to get vaccinated. According to a release from the State of Michigan, in July more than 2.4 million Michiganders signed up to win cash prizes and over 106,000 Michiganders entered to win college scholarships.
Should Michigan implement a cash reward program to encourage vaccination?
