Here's something to get excited about. Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park’s annual Fred & Dorothy Fichter Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition is just 4-weeks away. After suffering through this last winter blast, it's hard to imagine anything better than spending time with more than 7,000 tropical butterflies.

With more than 185,000 people from around the world annually visiting Butterflies Are Blooming, it is the spring’s most anticipated exhibition and is the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition in the nation, and it all begins here in Grand Rapids on March 1st, running through April 30th.

This year’s exhibition highlights how light and shadow affect butterflies, their color and the natural environment of the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. On bright, sunny days butterflies often move faster and fly higher. On cloudy days, butterflies fly lower and more slowly, making them easier to observe and enjoy. At dusk, many butterflies roost together, forming large groups in trees.
