Most guitar players are very familiar will Gibson guitars. The company was founded in Kalamazoo 120 years ago -- back in 1902.

The company got its start when Orville Gibson started making instruments back in 1894. He founded the company a few years later to make mandolin instruments. He then went on to invent archtop guitars by using the same type of carved and arched tops that were being used on violins.

The building at 225 Parsons Street in Kalamazoo is now occupied by Heritage Guitars. Gibson has been rebranded at Gibson Brands in 2013 and are now based in Nashville, Tennessee.
