This list may be a tad controversial depending on who you ask. These are in no order for the best beaches.

Holland State Park

There is plenty to experience at Holland State Park besides the beach itself. Holland State Park is home to the popular and historic Big Red lighthouse.

Holland State Park is also perfect for the whole family since it has a playground area and plenty of space for a cookout.

Grand Haven State Park

It would feel weird to not mention Grand Haven since it is really popular. Plus, Grand Haven State Park was named one of the 25 Best Beaches in the U.S. in 2024 by Travel+Leisure Magazine.

There are plenty of other beach options including PJ Hoffmaster State Park, Oval Beach, Pere Marquette Park, Duck Lake State Park, Van Buren State Park, North Point Conservation Area, Olive Shores, and more.

West Michigan "Secluded" Beaches

If you are not a fan of a lot of people being around or you need a secluded beach instead, here are a few spots you could check out.

Laketown Beach - Holland - 6710 142nd Ave., Holland, MI 49423

For Laketown Beach, keep in mind that you will need to walk downstairs to get to the beach. It is a rather long walk back up but it is the perfect place for a sunset beach day.

There is limited parking, so I would suggest going early on the weekends. If there is no parking available, you can park at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, which is less than 2 miles away.

Lake Harbor Park - Norton Shores - 4635 Lake Harbor Road, Norton Shores, MI 49441

Lake Harbor is one of West Michigan's best-kept secrets when it comes to beach spots.

With 189 acres in total, you can check out the multiple hiking trails through the woods or at the dunes.
