West Nile Virus Detected in Michigan

The skeeters have landed and so far there has been one case of the West Nile Virus in Michigan with probably more to follow.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have tested mosquitoes in several counties across the state that were confirmed to contain the West Nile Virus.

If you get bit by a mosquito and develop a high fever, suffer weak muscles, headache and feel a sense of confusion you will need to get to a doctor stat. West Nile can cause much more serious problems like encephalitis, meningitis that are neurological illnesses.

There were over 100 deaths in Michigan in 2018 and over 2,500 across the country due to the West Nile Virus.

The best way to avoid the virus is to avoid mosquitoes. It only takes one bite for the disease to take effect. Limit your time in the mosquitoes' hours of early morning, evening or night.
