Wyclef Jean is playing no games after claiming to be a victim of racial profiling at the hands of the Los Angeles Police. The Haitian rapper and former Fugees frontman is calling for a full investigation of the LAPD and L.A. Sheriff's Department.

'Clef went on ABC's Good Morning America earlier this a.m. (March 22) to speak out about his sobering experience with the police Monday night. According to the rapper, he and his driver were stopped by police in West Hollywood, Calif. and wrongfully detained just because they're Black.

"The racial profile point I want to make is basically that I was targeted as a Black man," Wyclef told ABC's Robin Roberts. "The way that the cops rushed me [and] the conversation I was having with them, it was a silent and a deaf conversation." Clef goes on to say he was scared for his life "to the point where I could've acted different [and] if I had acted different, something else would've happened."

Now, 'Clef is taking action. A press release sent by the musician's rep states "Mr. Jean is requesting a formal investigation into racial profiling by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and the LA Sheriff's Department while calling upon the ACLU and Black Lives Matter to join him in defense of civil liberties and racial bias."

Los Angeles officials say officers responding to an armed assault call mistook Jean for the suspect in the case and handcuffed him. Wyclef and his driver were held for approximately six minutes until the police realized the two did not fit the description. The Sherriff's Office later issued a public apology to the J'ouvert rapper, calling the whole thing "unfortunate."
