Do you remember what you were doing when you were in third grade?

I remember always begging my mom for Dunkaroos, asking for a cell phone to text my fake boyfriend, and chatting about the latest online game that my friends and I were playing.

Yes, I was into sports like soccer and cheerleading. But I never took them as seriously as I probably should've.

After learning about this 9-year-old, I am definitely reconsidering my life choices for sure.

What is Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

Essential Jiu Jitsu says that,

"Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a predominantly ground-based martial art, using the principals of leverage, angles, pressure, and timing, as well as knowledge of the human anatomy in order to achieve a non-violent submission of one's opponent. Unlike other martial arts that focus on strikes and/or kicks, jiu-jitsu focuses on close-contact "grappling" holds and techniques, and the application of chokes and joint-manipulations."

This third-grader is kicking butt, literally!

In March 2018, Reagan Green solidified her place in jiu-jitsu history when she walked into a jiu-jitsu studio in Grand Rapids.

As with any kid starting something, Reagan was nervous at the beginning but it seems to have worked out for her.

From 2018 to now, little Reagan Green has competed in 60 tournaments and traveled within 11 different states. That adds up to her competing in 454 matches.

In a press release from her dad, Jeff, he says that Reagan,

"has her sights set on becoming No. 1 in the 'Under-18' divisions for Grappling Industries, who hosts a tournament here in Grand Rapids, March 25 at the DeVos Place. She is also seeking to move up the competitive ladder to compete in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and ADCC No-GI events. Both are considered the highest level a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner can advance to."

Continue to keep going after the gold, Reagan!
