On paper, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are about as different from each other as you could imagine, but that didn't stop them from becoming one of the most successful tandems in the music industry's recent history. But they are different, and Eminem takes a shot at defining the differences—or at least, their functional ones— between the two in the new trailer for The Defiant Onesthe forthcoming Allen Hughes-directed (Menace II Society) documentary focusing on the working relationship and friendship of two long-time partners who made a fortune selling their Beats Electronics brand to Apple three years ago.

"Jimmy Iovine is the levitator, Dre is the innovator," 'Em says in the clip, artfully describing the differences he sees between the two guys he originally signed a record deal with about 20 years ago. What Slim Shady said sounds pretty dope, but it's not entirely clear what he's talking about. Guess we'll have to peep the documentary for ourselves to find out.

Speaking of the documentary, HBO's all set to premiere the first installment of the four-part series on July 9. Making appearances in the doc will be Bono, David Geffen, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen and will.i.am.

Overall, The Defiant Ones looks pretty fire, and we can't wait to see each part of Dre and Iovine's story explored in the new documentary series. Watch the new trailer below.
