GR Parks & Rec Needs Your Help With New Park Name
A new park is coming to Southwest Grand Rapids.
With this new park, the City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation needs your help naming it.
GR Parks & Rec Needs Your Help With New Park Name
With all of the community input, the temporarily named park, 'Plaza Roosevelt,' has proposed features such as:
- play areas,
- cafe-style seating,
- flexible gathering areas,
- hammock grove,
- rentable shelter space, and
- an interpretive kiosk
The park will also have the cupola from the former St. Joseph the Work Parish.
Construction for this new park is scheduled to begin next spring in 2025.
However, before construction can begin, the new park needs a name.
The Parks Department shared that the organization received 164 suggestions from the community on what to name the new park.
"A resident-led group ranked those names and narrowed them down to a “top six” list of names, based on the Park Naming Policy and the generational relevance to the surrounding community."
That is where your help comes in.
Plaza Roosevelt Park Name Choices
The Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation released the 6 name choices:
- Unity Park
- Navarro Plaza
- Southside Serenity Park
- La Placita
- Maurilia Ortiz Blakely Park
- Chief Blackbird Park
Each name choice has a detailed explanation of why the name was suggested.
I highly recommend reading each section so you can understand why each name was picked.
If you want to vote for your favorite name choice, you can vote here. However, you can only vote if you are a Grand Rapids resident.
