Grand Rapids Is One Of The Best Cities For People With Disabilities

For the third year in a row, Grand Rapids has made the list of the 10 best cities for people with disabilities.  In 2017, Grand Rapids was ranked the 2nd best city for people with disabilities but then Grand Rapids slipped to 10th in 2018.

Now that WalletHub.com has released the rankings for 2019, we see that Grand Rapids has begun to move back up the list.  This year we are ranked the 8th best city for people with disabilities between Denver, CO (#7) and St. Paul, MN (#9).  Here is the list of the top 10 cities in the country:

Grand Rapids wasn't the only Michigan city that made the list.  Detroit was ranked 138th out of the 182 cities that were considered. Detroit also ranked last in terms of employment rate for people with disabilities, 2nd to last in the highest percentage of persons with disabilities in poverty, and 4th in percent of persons with disabilities living in the area.

WalletHub compared 182 cities to determine the best and worst cities for people with disabilities.  The methodology used focused on three key dimensions: Economy, Quality of Life and Health Care.  These key dimensions were further broke down into 33 metrics.  You can read more about WalletHub's methodology here.
