‘Tis The Season – Grand Rapids’ Santa Claus Girls Seeking Donations
It's Christmas in August!
As the colder weather approaches, there are little ones who may not be able to have the perfect gift for Christmas.
That is where the Santa Claus Girls step in.
What Are The Santa Claus Girls?
In 1908, Arianna VanDoorn founded the Santa Claus Girls with hopes of providing cheer to boys and girls who could not get any gifts at Christmas.
For over 100 years, the Santa Claus Girls have been on that same mission in Kent County: to spread holiday cheer to those who need it most.
The volunteer-run organization says that $0.98 of every dollar raised goes towards helping children across Kent County.
The children's gifts are selected by age and gender and carefully wrapped and delivered to their homes usually by the 2nd Saturday in December.
Santa Claus Girls 2024 Donations
On the Santa Claus Girls' official Facebook page, the organization announced that every Wednesday starting August 14th until September 18th, the Kent County community can begin dropping off donations!
Weekly donation drops of hats, mittens, yarn, and other similar items are happening on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
If you plan to donate, you can drop off your donations at their Grand Rapids off Turner Avenue at 2500 Turner Ave NW, Suite B, Grand Rapids, MI, United States, Michigan.
Registering for the donations will begin on September 1st, with plenty of time before the colder weather hits West Michigan.
If you would like to donate monetarily, you can visit the Santa Claus Girls of Kent County's website. The organization is trying to raise $200,000. At the time of publication, they have reached $20,635.
For more details about the donation drop-offs and the organization as a whole, you can check out their website.
