Grandville Police Warn of New Scam

It seems as if we're going to have to keep a book of scams because there's another one to watch out for.

The Grandville Police Department posted about it Thursday morning on their Facebook page. Scammers are calling people and posing as someone who works for a fraud department (I know, the irony) and claiming that a suspicious transaction was made to the victim's cell phone bill. To "correct" the issue they ask for confirmation on phone number and the last 4 digits of your social security number. According to the Grandville PD, this is all the info they need to open an account with a loan company, Affirm.

Affirm provides interest free loans to purchase just about anything. They are similar to a credit card company.

It's important to remember that if it's a legit business/company, someone will not call you asking for personal information. If you don't know the phone number, let it go to voicemail. Personally, I believe if it's important, they will leave a message of some sort.
