They say that last year, holiday sales grew 14.1% from the previous year and reached a record $886.7 billion. They predict that this year holiday shopping may be more stressful due to high inflation putting a strain on many people’s wallets.

Kalamazoo hits number 533 on the list, with an annual average budget of $604, while Detroit is 439, with a $794 budget.

Not every city in Michigan is tight on their wallets around Christmastime. In fact, the east side of the state has some of the most generous places in the US. Including Rochester Hills which rated 21 in the country with an average budget of $2,516.
And nearby Troy was 24th on the list spending $2,379 on average each year.
