State health officials are alerting the public to take precautions after two measles cases were confirmed in Michigan last month. The Detroit News reports that the two cases involve Oakland County residents who arrived at Detroit Metro Airport in the afternoon back on October 23rd. Anyone who may have come in contact with these people, or was at the airport that day, should watch for symptoms for 21 days after the potential exposure. The virus can live up to two hours in the air where infected persons coughed or sneezed.

"Measles is a highly contagious respiratory infection. Immunizations are the best way to protect our families and communities from vaccine preventable diseases like measles." -- Leigh-Anne Stafford - Oakland County Health Official

Measles will typically begin with symptoms that include a high fever, red eyes, runny nose, light sensitivity. It eventually evolves to rashes on the face and head that progress to other parts of the body.
