Buddy's Pizza

Detroit-style pizza was invented at Motown’s “Buddy’s Pizza” in 1946 when Gus Guerra and the team decided to build a pizza backwards: dough, then pepperoni, cheese, and finally, sauce on top.

Somehow it all worked out!

This was the first known square pizza in the United States!

After 75 years, Buddy's Pizza is still thriving to this day with plenty of locations for visitors to choose from.

It makes complete sense why USA Today called Buddy’s Pizza “Pilgrimage-worthy pizza” and The Daily Meal named it #6 of the 101 Best Pizzas in America.

Food & Wine Magazine also stated that “Detroit’s pizza scene is one of the most exciting in the country.”
