Unfortunately, it is quickly growing to become the most common variant of COVID-19 in the United States.

Women's Health & The CDC reports that nearly 62 percent of COVID-19 cases in the country, JN.1 is responsible for.

"As of January 5, 2024, JN.1 is estimated to account for approximately 62% (range 55-68%) of all currently circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants, an increase from the estimated prevalence of 44% (range 39-50%) two weeks ago. CDC is also observing an increase in the prevalence of JN.1 in international travelers and wastewater viral levels, as well as in most regions around the globe."

The CDC is using wastewater levels to detect the increases in COVID-19 transmission.

What Are the Bizarre Symptoms of JN.1?

While these symptoms haven't officially been named as symptoms yet, many who have contracted the JN.1 variant have reported some symptoms that are new, and worth noting. A new study out of the UK suggests that these are the two new symptoms to look out for:

  1. Insomnia - Most of the time when we're sick, all we want to do is sleep. But, many people are reporting increased trouble sleeping.
  2. Increased Anxiety - As if any of us need that, right? None of us like to be sick, so could it just be increased worry from that?
