A gunman in Grand Rapids finally surrendered after barricading himself in a house for about seven hours.

According to WOOD TV, Grand Rapids Police Department Sgt. Cathy Williams said the suspect simply had enough and gave up to police after a very long standoff. No one was injured and police didn't have to use any force to end the standoff.

The suspect appeared to have no physical injuries but did need to be evaluated by medical personnel.

Authorities were contacted after several calls came in regarding shots being fired in the 3200 block of Marshall Avenue around 1 a.m. Monday morning. The suspect entered an apartment near 33rd Street and Marshall Avenue just east of Eastern Avenue.

Police evacuated the entire apartment complex and alerted residents that were near the apartment building to stay inside.

The 38-year-old suspect who lived in the apartment complex did communicate with police negotiators.

The crime scene is still being processed so the road will remain closed until police wrap up the investigation.
