Another big summer event in West Michigan has been canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Berlin Fair, billed "Michigan's longest running fair", will not take place in 2020.

The Berlin Fair in Marne announced on Facebook this week that "after thorough discussion the Berlin Fair Board voted towards the 2020 Berlin Fair to be a virtual show/auction for all market projects, and no on grounds fair." They say "many factors and restrictions" lead to the decision.

The fair had been scheduled to take place July 6 through 11, 2020.

Originally called the Ottawa County Agricultural Society, the fair first started in 1856. With an "emphasis on youth and agriculture.", past fairs have featured tractor pulls, rodeos, 4-H exhibits, animal shows, carnival rides, beer and bingo tents, food, and live music.

The Berlin Fair says camping reservation payments will be returned or the deposits can be used to reserve a spot for next year.
